      SOLUTION: A CPU controls a multi feed detection sensor so that multi feed detection with respect to the sheets by the multi feed detection sensor are carried out at a plurality of transmission points P1-P5. The CPU sets the plurality of transmission points so as to cover the front end to the rear end of the sheets moved in the sheet transport direction, based on size information read from a storage section, and detection timing of sheet passage by a first horizontal path sensor. Thereby, the multi feed detection can be carried out to cover the front end to the rear end of the preceding sheet in the sheet transport direction, thereby also detecting connected multi feed that the following sheet is connectedly overlapped with the preceding sheet.
