    • PURPOSE:To enable to shift a ribbon to an arbitrary position without vibrating a cassette-fitting base, by a method wherein an arm for rotating a ribbon cassette fitting base is rotated by a predetermined angle at a time by two kinds of solenoids. CONSTITUTION:To shift up the ribbon from the lowermost first position to the second position for printing, an electric current is passed to the first solenoid 38 to protrude an operating rod 46, thereby pushing up the arm 28 against a spring 42. Then, a pin provided on the arm 28 pushes up the cassette-fitting base 20 while moving in a slot 32 provided in a plate member 24 of the base 20, thereby positioning the base 20. To shift up the ribbon to the third position for a correcting operation, an electric current is passed further to the second solenoid 40 to retract an operating rod 48, thereby drawing the other end of the arm 28 through a pin 50 provided on the rod 48. The ribbon is returned to the first or second position by stopping the passage of the electric currents to the solenoids 38, 40.

    • PURPOSE:To enable to smoothly lift up a ribbon cassette without generating any reaction, by pressing a lift for a ribbon base by a cam operated by a clapper- type magnet. CONSTITUTION:An attracting force of an armature 16 by the clapper-type magnet 17 for driving a driving lever 13 is small at first since the gap G at the attracting part is somewhat large, but the attracting force F is rapidly increased as the gap G is reduced. When an initial attracting force F of the armature 16 is small, the cam 9 is turned slowly. When the attracting force F is increased in proportion to the reduction of the gap G, a cam-driving roller 12 passes over a projected surface 9c to reach a curved surface 9b, which is a lifting position and is so shaped that the roller 12 becomes stable thereon. Engagement between the lever 13 and the cam 9 is relieved of contact friction by the roller 12. Accordingly, the lift for the ribbon base 6 can be stably raised without receiving any strong shock.

    • PURPOSE:To contrive a higher carriage velocity and a reduction in the cost of a carriage-driving system, by separating an actuator from the carriage to reduce the weight of the carriage. CONSTITUTION:When a ribbon-driving solenoid 22 is excited, a ribbon bracket 24 is moved as indicated by an arrow with a support shaft 26 as a center through a ribbon-driving lever B, a shaft 23 and a lever A. At this time, a carbon ribbon cassette 25 fitted to the bracket 24 is moved together, a printing ribbon is set to the position of a type face of a daisy wheel 12, and printing is conducted by a hammer solenoid 14. Accordingly, since driving for shifting the ribbon up and down and other driving are conducted by a driving mechanism fitted on the side of a frame of the printer, the weight of the carriage is markedly reduced, so that a slide shaft with a smaller diameter can be used, a carriage-driving motor can be reduced in size, and component parts of the driving system can be made smaller. As a result, it is possible to move the carriage 11 at a higher velocity, reduce the cost of the carriage-driving system and reduce the total weight of the printer.
