    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which can at least 50% or completely suppress cavitation in a near distance range to a vibration transmission sonotrode face and wear of the vibration transmission sonotrode relevant to the cavitation.SOLUTION: The apparatus for ultrasonic treatment of a liquid includes an ultrasonic wave system (2) having at least one sonotrode (1) inserted into a cylindrical reaction container (5); carries out ultrasonic treatment of a liquid passing in the cylindrical reaction container (5) via at least one inlet (4) and at least one outlet by generating cavitation using ultrasonic wave with an operation frequency of 15 to 100 kHz and sound output of 50 to 20,000 W; and is characterized in that the effective cross-sectional surface area of the cylindrical reaction container (5) is continuously decreased at least little by little by keeping a gap from the vibration transmission sonotrode face (3) by an insert (10) in the cylindrical reaction container (5).
