    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high functional stacking and stitching in an image production device.
      SOLUTION: The device determines whether it should carry out stitching to image production documents or not. When it determines to carry out stitching; the documents are stitched along a first paper route and fed to a first stacking tray where they are to be stacked. When it determines not to carry out stitching processing; it determines whether the image production documents require high-quality alignment stacking with higher quality than that of the stacking provided in the first stacking tray or not. If it determines that the documents require that, the image production documents are fed to a second stacking tray where stacking is carried out with the high-quality alignment method along a second paper route. If it determines that the documents does not require that, the image production documents are fed along one of the first paper route communicating to the first stacking tray where the documents are to be stacked and the second route communicating to the second stacking tray where the documents are to be stacked.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique for a registration system helpful in making space efficiency as high as possible. SOLUTION: A scuffing device 420 comprises a scuffer arm 422, an elongating/retracting device, a driving sub-system, and an engagement control device. When the scuffer arm 422 is elongated, paper to be scuffed is held between a friction wheel 429 and an idler wheel 431 or a platform before the scuffer arm 422 is completely elongated. The friction wheel 429 engages with the paper and is driven by a second driving motor 463, a second driving transfer system 470 and a belt 433 to push or scuff the paper during a time when the scuffer arm 422 is completely elongated.
