      SOLUTION: The highly dispersible strontium carbonate fine powder is characterized in that: a polymer comprising a polycarboxylic acid or its anhydride having a polyoxyalkylene group in the side chain is deposited on the surfaces of particles; the average circle-equivalent diameter of the projected area of the primary particles obtained by an image analysis on an electron microscope photograph ranges from 30 to 90 nm; and the coefficient of variation of the circle-equivalent diameter of the projected area is within 40%.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barium carbonate powder showing higher reactivity compared to that of a conventional one.
      SOLUTION: The barium carbonate powder is an acicular barium carbonate powder having a BET specific surface area of ≥52 m
      2 /g. Alternatively, the barium carbonate powder is a granular barium carbonate powder having a BET specific surface area of ≥60 m
      2 /g and an average aspect ratio of ≤2. The acicular barium carbonate powder can be manufactured by stirring an aqueous suspension of barium hydroxide having a liquid temperature within the range of 5-15°C and barium hydroxide concentration of 3-20 mass%, introducing carbon dioxide gas into the suspension in the presence of citric acid at a flow rate within the range of 0.5-20 mL/min against 1 g barium hydroxide in the suspension to perform carbonation of barium hydroxide to yield barium carbonate particles and drying the same. The granular barium carbonate powder can be manufactured by grinding the acicular barium carbonate powder using an ordinary crushing apparatus using ceramic beads.
