    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-resistant polyester resin or its composition without causing the remarkable increase of viscosity in a system and without using an organic solvent. SOLUTION: This method for producing the water-resistant polyester resin, comprising obtaining a polyester resin mainly having hydroxy groups at the molecular terminals by a polycondensation reaction, and then adding a cyclic acid anhydride group-containing polymer to the polyester resin of melted state, is characterized in that an equivalent ratio (hydroxy group/acid anhydride group) of the hydroxy groups of the polyester resin to the acid anhydride groups of the cyclic acid anhydride group-containing polymer is ≥1.5; and a mass ratio (the polyester resin/the cyclic acid anhydride group-containing polymer) of the polyester resin to the cyclic acid anhydride group-containing polymer is 70/30 to 95/5. The method for producing the water-resistant polyester resin composition is characterized by dissolving the water-resistant polyester resin produced by the method in an organic solvent.
