摘要： PURPOSE:An isopropyl-substituted benzene is oxidized in liquid phase with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst of pyridine hydrobromide that is easy-to-handle to produce title compound in short times in high selectivity and yield without ignition caused by contact with air. CONSTITUTION:An isopropyl-substituted benzene such as cumene, cymene or diisopropylbnezene is oxidized in liquid phase with an oxygen-containing gas at 30- 200 deg.C under pressure in the presence of a pyridine hydrobromide to produce the objective compound such as cumene hydroperoxide. The catalyst used is, e.g., pyridine hydrobromide, picoline hydrobromide, lutidine hydrobromide or bipyridene hydrobromide. In order to shorten the induction period of the liquid phase exidation, the addition of a small amount of a reaction initiator such as benzoyl peroxide is preferred.

摘要： PURPOSE:Liquid surface-controlling apparatus within a vessel capable of keeping liquid surface at a pre-determined level within the vessel in which liquid is mixed with gas at an elevated temperature under pressure and the reaction of the liquid with the gas is continuously carried out, and the inside of which is unobservable. CONSTITUTION:The figure 1 designate an autoclave in which gas such as hydrogen is mixed with liquid such as benzene at an elevated temperature under pressure. A stirring impeller 8 is rotated by the motor 6, whereby mixing of the liquid with the gas supplied from supply tubes 9,10 respectively, is carried out and the mixtuve is discharged from a discharge pipe 11. In the neighborhood of gas-liquid contact surface within the vessel there are two thermocouples which are different in the heights at the lower part. To the thermocouples is connected a self-balancing recorder 17 which reads potential difference recorded by the temperatuve differnce between upper and lower positions within the vessel. The supply of the gas and liquid is controlled such that the potential difference indicates a predetermined value, whereby the liquid surface is kept at a predetermined level.

PROCESS:The compound of formula I or formula II wherein R is allyl is obtained by heating a solution of an amic acid prepared by reacting biphenyltetracarboxylic acid with allylamine. Oxidation and subsequent epoxidization of the above compound affords the compound of formula I or formula II wherein R is glycidyl.

The amount of HBr is 0.01 mol/l or more, perferably 0.03-1.0 mol/l, and acetic anhydride may be used in an amount of 0.05wt% or more based on the substituted benzene, and preferably enough to make a converted phenol derivative form a phenyl acetate.
