    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily reduce a residual torque to a level not hindering steering control, without requiring technical skill and long time regulation, to reduce a cost, and to stabilize performance.
      SOLUTION: When a trigger signal is input, a CPU 31 reads an initially set program from a ROM 33, and executes following procedures. (1) The first torque value including the residual torque is detected in the first position where a steering wheel 1 is rotated by a prescribed angle along one direction around a steering wheel axial line from a neutral position, using an assist motor 20, to be stopped there. (2) The second torque value including the residual torque is detected in the second position where the steering wheel 1 is rotated by the same angle along the other direction from the neutral position, to be stopped there. (3) An average value of the first and second torque values is found to offset the negative and positive residual torques, and the average value is determined as an initial torque due to a difference between origin positions of a paired resolvers 12, 12. (4) The initial torque is stored as a correction value for a steering torque in a data storage area 33b.

      SOLUTION: The device controls (S18) a motor from the time point (S16: YES) of zero displacement of the reciprocating displacement of a rack shaft 24, to the direction to reduce the rotating speed of a ball screw nut 52. The collision of the rack shaft 24 with the ball screw nut 52 is suppressed by controlling the motor and reducing the rotating speed of the ball screw nut 52 continuing the rotation by the inertia when the rack shaft is displaced by the road surface reaction force, the ball screw nut 52 is rotated accompanying with the fluctuation of the rack shaft 24, and the displacement speed of the rack shaft 24 is damped.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power steering device capable of preventing mis-operation from occurring in a controlled steering state when an initial torque cannot be normally detected due to personal error. SOLUTION: In this power steering device, when trigger signals are inputted, a CPU 31 reads an initial set program from the program storage area 33a of a ROM 33, and the program is performed following the procedure below. (1) The initial torque primarily resulting from a difference between the origin positions of a pair of resolvers 12 and 12 is detected by a torque sensor 10.(2) A first torque value for determination is detected by the torque sensor 10 at a first determination position where a steering wheel 1 is rotated by a predetermined angle in one direction around the axis of the steering wheel by using an assist motor 20 and stopped.(3) A second torque value for determination is detected in the same manner at a second determination position where the steering wheel 1 is rotated by the same angle from a neutral position in the other direction and stopped.(4) Whether the initial torque is normally detected or not is determined based on the first and second torque values.
