      SOLUTION: The fuel cell is equipped with a fuel cell stack in which unit cells including a membrane-electrode assembly, and an anode flow passage plate and a cathode flow passage plate consisting of a conductive material are laminated in a plurality of pieces. Here, an anode extended part extended outside an anode catalyst layer is formed at the end part of the anode flow passage plate, and at least at one part of the anode extended part, a combustion catalyst to decompose methanol or formaldehyde by a combustion reaction with oxygen in the air is arranged. On the other hand, at the end part of the cathode flow passage plate, a cathode extended part opposed to the anode extended part is formed, and a hydrophilic region is formed on a face of the cathode extended part opposed to the anode extended part.

As the circulation pump 6 makes a reverse turn after finish of power generation, a reverse flow is formed to have the fuel exhausted from inside the stack 1 through the fuel inlet 17 collected to the buffer tank 5.
