    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform appropriate assistant to forward and backward movements of a cleaner body. SOLUTION: In the vacuum cleaner, wheels are driven by a driving means provided for the cleaner body that has the wheels for running to have the cleaner body move by itself, and the cleaner is provided with a detection means 36, a memory 48, and a microcomputer 46.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can stably detect tension applied by manual operation of a communicating tube.
      SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes a communicating tube 1 which forms an airflow channel communicating with a suction opening 8 which absorbs dust and a cleaner body 3 which has a communicating tube mounting part 2 which supports the communicating tube 1, the cleaner body 3 includes a sensor 22 which detects strain which is produced in the communicating tube mounting part 2 by operating the communicating tube 1, a driving means 16 which drives wheels for travel motion, and a travel motion control means which controls the driving means 16 according to the strain detected by the sensor 22. The sensor 22 is attached in the communicating tube mounting part 2 on the outer side of the cleaner body, in an end part 2c on the side where force acts while the cleaner body 3 moves ahead.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately assist the traveling of a cleaner body in various cleaning forms.
      SOLUTION: The cleaner body detects a force applied to a communicating tube attachment part via a communicating tube with a hose by a strain gage 22 and has a resistance bridge circuit 36 outputting a voltage signal according to the detected force. The cleaner body is also provided with a threshold setting device 42 setting a threshold by a sliding volume 9b provided in a grip part. The cleaner part allows a differential amplifier circuit 41 to compare a voltage according to a voltage signal from the resistance bridge circuit with a threshold voltage from a threshold setting device 42, outputs a positive voltage according to the voltage difference, and turns on transistors 35 and 31 by the positive voltage to actuate a traveling motor 15. This cleaner can vary the relation whether or not self-propelling the cleaner body when applying how much force to the strain gage by varying the threshold.
