    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a metal oxide powder which is fine and hardly aggregates, that is to say, which is fine and has excellent dispersibility.
      SOLUTION: The method for producing the metal oxide powder includes: a metal salt neutralization reaction process for obtaining a metal salt neutralization reaction slurry containing a neutralized product of a metal salt and an ammonium salt by bringing an aqueous ammonia solution into contact with an aqueous solution of the metal salt to neutralize the metal salt; a first drying process for obtaining a neutralized product of the metal salt containing the ammonium salt by drying the metal salt neutralization reaction slurry after allowing the ammonium salt to exist in the metal salt neutralization reaction slurry so that the molar ratio of the ammonium salt to metal element becomes within a range of 0.8-4.4; and an ammonium salt removing process for obtaining the metal oxide powder by washing the neutralized product of the metal salt containing the ammonium salt.

      SOLUTION: This manufacturing method of a metal oxide powder comprises a metal chloride salt neutralization process in which an aqueous solution of a metal chloride salt is contacted with an ammonia aqueous solution to carry out neutralization of the metal chloride salt, thus a metal chloride salt neutralization slurry containing the metal chloride salt neutralizate and an ammonium salt is obtained, a drying and ammonia evaporation process in which the metal chloride salt neutralization slurry is heated at 110-150°C in the presence of the ammonium salt at a molar ratio of the ammonium salt to the metal element of 0.8-4.4, and a hydrochloric acid-containing metal chloride salt neutralizate is obtained by drying the metal chloride salt neutralization slurry and evaporating ammonia in the ammonium salt, and a washing process in which a slurry of the hydrochloric acid containing metal chloride salt neutralizate is made and the hydrochloric acid-containing metal chloride salt neutralizate is washed at a pH of 4.5-7 and the metal oxide powder is obtained.
