    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently recover a carbon fiber leaving the mechanical performance and property sufficient for the reclamation use of the fiber from a carbon fiber reinforced plastic material.
      SOLUTION: Reclaimed carbon fiber is recovered by the carbonization treatment of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic material in a carbonization furnace. The carbonization treatment is carried out by crushing the carbon fiber reinforced plastic material to a maximum diameter of ≥20 mm, charging the crushed material into the carbonization furnace to a layer thickness (bulk height) of ≤300 mm and carbonizing at 400-950°C while introducing an inert gas at a rate of 10-100 times volume per minute based on the inner volume of the furnace and keeping the pressure in the furnace to 0.3-1.0 mmH
      2 O. The reclaimed carbon fiber has a fiber length of ≤20 mm, an amount of adhering carbonized material of ≤10% based on the carbon fiber and a strength loss of ≤10% after the carbonization treatment.
