    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter for a low power-consumption single-phase induction motor or the like.
      SOLUTION: The motor starter 1 includes: the motor 20 comprising a main winding M and a starting winding S; a PTC 30 connected in series to the starting winding S; a triac 40 connected between the PTC 30 and a power supply line; and a triac control circuit 50 connected to a gate terminal G of the triac 40. The triac control circuit 50 feeds a voltage that corresponds to a rush current at the start of the motor to the gate terminal G, and makes the triac 40 conductive at the start of the motor.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch of a novel structure with high reliability due to stable action. SOLUTION: The switch includes a metal terminal 110 having a fixed contact 116, a secondary metal terminal 120 having a movable contact 126 that can be contacted to the fixed contact 116 by constant contact pressure, first and second metal members 144 and 146, and a a shape memory alloy conductive wire 142 connected between the metal members. The first metal member 144 has an actuator 140 connected to a secondary metal terminal 120, and a third metal terminal 130 connected to the actuator 140. The conductive wire 142 of the actuator 140 can be displaced in its axial direction according to a current supplied from the third metal terminal 130.
