    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversely polarized piezoelectric transformer detecting circuit capable of surely discriminating a reverse polarized piezoelectric transformer, in a short time when inspection for a piezoelectric transformer is carried out.
SOLUTION: The reverse-polarization detecting circuit for detecting the polarization detects the polarization direction in the primary side or the secondary side of the piezoelectric transformer (3), when it is reverse to the desired polarization direction. The detecting circuit is provided with a comparison means (4) for comparing a drive AC voltage (2) for driving the piezoelectric transformer, with a signal which corresponds to the output voltage of the piezoelectric transformer.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the casing structure of a piezoelectric transformer in which uncomfortable sound can be suppressed at the time of ballast light control. SOLUTION: The casing structure of a piezoelectric transformer where a piezoelectric transformer element 2 being driven in half-wavelength mode is arranged as follows. At first, primary electrodes 21a and 21b formed, respectively, on the upper and lower surfaces of the piezoelectric transformer element 2 are extended up to the one end face of the piezoelectric transformer element 2 such that they abut on each other thus forming extended parts 22a and 22b of the primary electrodes 21a and 21b. Subsequently, one ends of lead wires 41a and 41b for ensuring a conductive state between the primary electrodes 21a and 21b, and metal terminals 31a and 31b provided on the side face of the case 1 facing the end face of the piezoelectric transformer element 2, are connected with the metal terminals 31a and 31b. Furthermore, the other ends of lead wires 41a and 41b are connected with the extended parts 22a and 22b of the primary electrodes 21a and 21b.
