    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the same sliding characteristic as a material including Pb by constituting a sliding member by base material and a coated layer formed on a sliding surface of a surface of the base material, including at least one kind selected from a group made of Sn, Bi, and In the coated layer, and making the rest thereof of Ag and unavoidable impurity. SOLUTION: A sliding member is composed of a base material and a coated layer 3 formed on a sliding surface of a surface of the base material, the base material is selected according to an adapting member. In the case of a sliding bearing for an internal combustion engine, lining of a Cu-Sn alloy layer 2 is carried out on a steel back plate 1. A Ni plating layer 2' is arranged as an intermediate layer on a surface of the base material in order to improve joining of the base material and the coated layer and an anticorrosion. The coated layer 3 contains at least one kind selected from a group made of Sn, Bi, and In, and its rest part is made of Ag and an unavoidable impurity. Pb not is not contained in the coated layer 3, fatigue resistance and abrasion resistance are improved by a characteristic of Ag group, the coated layer 3 run-in with Sn, Bi, In has good lubrication and seizing resistance.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change opening of a through-hole 11 in response to an engine operating condition in a cylinder block 1 for an internal combustion engine provided with the through-hole 11 in a partition wall 6 partitioning between adjacent crank chambers 8.
      SOLUTION: The through-hole 11 is provided with an adjusting member 12 for changing opening of the through-hole 11. Posture of the adjusting member 12 is controlled by a driving source 14 in response to the engine speed. With this structure, the moving quantity of a fluid through the through-hole 11 can be optionally changed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block for suitably reducing piston slaps.
      SOLUTION: The cylinder block 11 has a plurality of cylinder liners 21-24 in which pistons are reciprocatingly stored. Each piston is connected to a crank pin of a crank shaft 16 via a connecting rod. With the top dead center of the piston as a reference, a thrust side is set where the crank pin is located before the piston gets to the top dead center and an antithrust side is set where the crank pin is located after the piston gets to the top dead center. The all cylinder liners 21-24 have center lines L intersecting a rotating center R of the crank shaft 16 or eccentricity from the rotating center R to the antithrust side. The all cylinder liners 21-24 are at least two types of cylinder liners whose center lines L have mutually different eccentricity amounts e1-e4 from the rotating center R.
