摘要： PURPOSE:To improve the purging faculty by installing a purge air selector means for selecting the stream of the purge air according to the swelling state of an organic polymer layer and introducing the purge air into an organic polymer layer when the organic polymer layer is swollen. CONSTITUTION:A selector mechanism 18 formed at the inside center position of an organic polymer layer 15 is constituted of a valve 14 and a leaf spring 21, and the valve 14 is shifted in the vertical direction by the leaf spring 21 in deflected state. The outer shape of a filter 17 is changed by the pressure due to the swelling of the organic polymer compound 16 introduced into the lower part of the filter 17, and the volume change due to the swelling is concentrated at the part opposed to the leaf spring 21, and urges the leaf spring 21 upwardly through the filter 17. A large quantity of liquid fuel and high boiling point vapor are absorbed by the organic high polymeric layer 15, and when the organic polymer compound 16 is swollen, the first branched passage 13 is closed by the selector mechanism 18, and the second branched passage 24 is opened. In this state, the purge air introduced from an atmosphere conduit 25 is sucked into an engine, and the fuel caught by a canister 1 is discharged.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a fuel absorbing body excellent in mechanical durability, fuel absorption and a desorption property in use and manufacture thereof. CONSTITUTION:A fuel absorbing body consists of polymer grains 22 having fuel absorbing performance and a cross-linked binder 21 permeable to fuel to be absorbed, and the polymer grains 22 are dispersed in the matrix of the cross-linked binder 21. The fuel absorbing body 20 is obtained by mixing binder solution having the binder dissolved in the solvent with the polymer grains to prepare and dry mixed liquid having the polymer grains dispersed in the binder solution. The binder 21 covers individually the polymer grains 22 so that both form one continuous body-like fuel absorbing body 20.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of absorbing performance of activated carbon in the case where a liquid content in vaporized fuel is absorbed to the activated carbon, and prevent a polymeric absorbent from being filled excessively during traveling of an automobile. CONSTITUTION:A lower chamber 34 is disposed under an activated carbon chamber 11. A polymer chamber 12 filled with an organic polymeric absorbent 5 is divided into a plurality of division chambers 121-125. An introducing pipe 15 for introducing vaporized fuel and a purge pipe 16 are connected to a first space chamber 31 disposed above the polymer chamber 12. A third space chamber 33 for sucking the atmosphere is provided above the activated carbon chamber 11, and is connected to an atmosphere pipe 17. The lower chamber 34 is communicated with a second space chamber 32 in the lower portion. The shallow filling depth of the polymeric absorbent 5 can prevent the polymeric absorbent 5 from being filled excessively. Consequently, the polymeric absorbent can be freely swelled, thereby enhancing absorbing performance of the polymer chamber.

摘要： PURPOSE:To make the size of an evaporative fuel treatment device smaller by making liquid evaporative fuel absorbed into an organic macromolecular absorbent in a macromolecule chamber while making only gas thereof adsorbent activated carbon, thereby eliminating degradation of evaporative fuel capturing performance due to the adsorption of the liquid on activated carbon. CONSTITUTION:An activated carbon chamber 11 filled with acitivated carbon 4 is provided under a macromolecule chamber 12 loaded with organic macromolecular absorbents 5 (e.g. polypropylene). And an admitting pipe 15 for admitting evaporative fuel and a purge pipe 16 are connected to a first space 31 provided above the chamber 12. A third space 33 for admitting the atmosphere is provided above the chamber 11 and an atmosphere pipe 17 is connected to the space 33. Further, a communication pipe 36 is interconnected between a second space 32 and a fourth space 35 under the chamber 11. As a result, liquid of evaporative fuel is absorbed into the absorbents 5 in the chamber 12, while only gas thereof is adsorbed on the activated carbon, whereby degradation of evaporative fuel capturing performance due to the adsorption of liquid on activated carbon can be avoided, thereby reducing the size of an evaporative fuel treatment device.

The powder 52 present among fine particles of the polymer 50 melt-sticks together and a fuel absorber 5 having high strength is obtd.

In the manufacture, the polymer such as EPDM and EVA and a cross-linking agent are dissoved previously into the solvent at a temperature close to the normal tempeature. Then, the solvent is evaporated, and the state free of solvent is generated. Then, cross-linking reaction is carried out by heating.

The resin 52 on the surfaces of the granules 50 melt-sticks together and a fuel absorber 5 having high strength is obtd.
