    • PURPOSE:To improve efficiency by allowing an operation to be rapidly restarted by pushing a start switch disposed near a jamming point after the abnormality, such as jam, is removed in the event of generation of the abnormality, such as jam. CONSTITUTION:Postal matter is taken out by each one sheet from a supply section. The taken out postal matter is transported and information is read from the transported postal matter by 1st and 2nd detecting sections. The transported postal matter is classified and collected to plural collecting sections according to the contents of the reading. Plural operating panels 8 which instruct various operations and an operation panel 8, sub-panel 9 and switch parts 10 to 13 which are provided in various sections and instruct the partial stop or start of the above-mentioned 1st, 2nd screening sections, auxiliary supply section, etc., are provided. The partial stop or start of the above-mentioned 1st, 2nd screening sections auxiliary supply section, etc., is executed according to the instructions of the operation panel 8, sub-panel 9 and switch parts 10 to 13. Consequently, the operation can be restarted efficiently after the elimination of the jam, etc.

    • PURPOSE:To achieve a good processing efficiency and to improve a read factor by a constitution wherein mails supplied from a preprocessing unit are processed in a mixed reading mode and those from a take-out device are processed in a specified reading mode. CONSTITUTION:Mails accumulated in a supply unit are taken out by a take-out unit 2 one by one and carried along a transportation path. Mails supplied from a send-out unit of a coupling device are also joined and carried along the transportation path. Zip code numbers on the mails are read during this transportation. In this case, a control unit 21 discriminates whether the mails corresponding to a read station 4 are supplied from the supply unit or from the coupling device in accordance with signals from detectors 53 and 54. A read processing in a reading mode specified by an operation panel 7 is carried out for the mails from the supply unit and that in a mixed mode is carried out for the mails from the coupling device. It is possible, as a result, to achieve a good processing efficiency and to improve a read factor.

    • PURPOSE:To efficiently classify and accumulate, by a method wherein by reading section information marked on paper sheets taken out from a feed part, the paper sheets are sent in a classified manner to a conveyance passage divided into plural blocks, and each conveyance passage is independently driven and stopped. CONSTITUTION:Paper sheets from a feed part 2 are fed to a step pass part 5a through a conveyance passages 3 and 5. In a first discharge gate 3b located in the middle thereof, an unpassed sheet is discharged to a discharge stacker 8, and in a second discharge part 3c, paper sheets, to which a conveyance trouble occurs, are discharged to a discharge stacker 8'. In a reading part 4, a mark on a sheet is discriminated. In a step pass part 5a, according to the read mark, gates 5c-5i are opened and closed to classify and accumulate the paper sheets in removable accumulating boxes A00, A22...G00, G22. The accumulating boxes A00-G00 are used as a reject box 7 for a paper sheet the division of which is unknown. By means of information from sensors along the whole of a conveyance passage, a CPU instructs stop of conveyance, driving, classification, accumulation, and discharge at each block. This constitution prevents a stop of a whole device and enables improvement of working efficiency.

    • PURPOSE:To securely stack up sheets of paper, etc. by providing a passing- number counter which counts up the number of sheets for each stacking case, counting the number of stacked sheets when a stacking case becomes full, and stopping staking up until the full condition is released, in a mail classifier, etc. CONSTITUTION:When a full condition of one stacking case 6 is detected by a microswitch, the number of pieces of mail to be stacked in a stacking case 6, and which is being transported through a transporting passage 3, is detected by a passing-number counter 11. When the counted number reaches a reference value corresponding to the capacity of the stacking case 6, which is set in a control part, a solenoid for driving a classifying gate corresponding to the stacking case 6, is kept turned off to prevent the stacking up of mail. This condition continues until the mail in the stacking case 6 is taken out releasing its full condition. Thus, an abnormality in transporting paper, etc. can be prevented, carrying out secure stacking operation.

    • PURPOSE:To easily carry out the control of a gate means by setting the operating area of a classifying gate with plural detectors and turning off a solenoid when there is no sheet of paper, etc. in said area, in a mail classifier, etc. CONSTITUTION:A control part 21 always monitors position codes stored in a memory part 25 and, when a position code for the presence of mail has disappeared from a transporting passage 5a and a transporting passage 5a1 to a stacking case, within the operating area AE which is specified by photodetectors 10a-10d, for a classifying gate 26a, it turns off a solenoid 27 which drives the classifying gate 26a. Similarly, a classifying gate 26b is also turned off when a position code which indicates the presence of mail, has disappeared from its operating area in the memory part 25. Thereby, the control of gate means can be easily carried out, abnormality in transporting paper, etc. can be prevented, and power consumption can be reduced.

    • PURPOSE: To increase a reading rate by providing a label-reading mode corresponding to a postal item printed with a label and fitting a cursor to the position of a postal code number and widening a visual field around the cursor and performing recognition treatment. CONSTITUTION: A recognition part 20 receives the image data of a postal item from a photoelectric conversion part and receives the coordinate information of a postal code number specified by a cursor which is outputted from a reading position regulation controlling circuit 26. It is decided whether a reading mode set up in a console panel is a printed reading mode. In the case of NO, it is decided that the reading mode is a handwritten reading mode or a mixed reading mode and the position of the postal code number is decided. Further, in the case of YES, a label-reading mode is provided by a label specification means. The range of a visual field is widened by the cursor and recognition treatment is performed. Therefore, even when the position of the label is tilted a little, a reading rate is increased.

    • PURPOSE:To improve maintainability by a method wherein the cause of the occurrence of abnormality heretofore not detected through a conventional method is pursued and besides the pursuit is effected effectively in a short time. CONSTITUTION:Mails P are taken out one by one from a feed part and the taken out mail P is conveyed. From the conveyed mail P, information is read by first and second detecting parts, and the conveyed mails P are divided and accumulated at a plurality of accumulating parts according to a read content. In a so formed paper sheet processing device, abnormality of each part is detected. The detected abnormality content, a date when abnormality occurs, the number of processed mails, and an abnormality state, such as an abnormality position are stored in an internal memory 70a. When edition of abnormality occurring situations is indicated, the abnormality content and the abnormality situation stored in the internal memory 70a are edited according to an edition content. The edited abnormality content and abnormality situation are displayed on a terminal device 80.

    • PURPOSE:To make mail classification changeable easily by providing a conveying means, a small lot reception part, a big low reception part and information reading means. CONSTITUTION:A judgement is made as to whether or not a postal matter P is reversed based on mail handling information from flap detecting parts 16 and 17 and stamping parts 20 and 21 and, when its reversal is decided, a reversing instruction is sent to a direction assignment gate control part 124 in connection with an inner bus 122. Upon reception of the reversing instruction, a gate control part 12 sends a driving signal to a direction assignment gate 22 to steer the corresponding mail P into a reverse passageway 24. From the information sent from postal zone number reading parts 18 and 19, previously assigned reception part number is retrieved, a judgement is made as to whether the reception part is of a small or big lot and the mail is sent to a lot assignment gate control part 125. A driving signal is then sent to a lot assignment gate 26 to steer the postal matter P into the assigned reception part. This method makes changes in mail classification easy.
