摘要： PURPOSE: To prepare a compsn. which can form a thick SiO2 -based adhesive layer or coating possessing excellent heat resistance, hermetic sealing, and smoothness and, at the same time, high electrical insulating properties by incorporating a polysilazane. CONSTITUTION: This compsn. comprises a polysilazane and an inorg. filler in an amt. of 5 to 50 pts.wt. per pt.wt. of polysilazane. Any polysilazane may be used as far as it has in its molecule at least an Si-H bond and an N-H bond. When the use of the compsn. as an adhesive or a coating material is contemplated, perhydropolysilazane is pref. The average particle diameter of the inorg. filler is generally 0.005 to 50μm. Pref. inorg. fillers include Al2 O3 , SiO2 , ZrO2 , TiO2 , SiC, MgO, and AlN. Incorporation of Al2 O3 together with TiO2 is particularly pref. A substrate is coated with this compsn., and the coating is air dried, heated and fired to prepare a substrate covered with a heat- resistant coating.

This SiO2 film has all of the characteristics of the gas barrier layer, hard coat layer and under coat layer required for the electrode substrate for the liquid crystal display device, is lower in film forming cost than a dry plating method and is formable by a simple coating method.

摘要： PURPOSE: To obtain a SiO2 -covered plastic film having gas barrier properties and wear resistance by a method wherein a SiO2 film, which contains a specified value by atomic percentage of nitrogen obtained by converting polysilazane to ceramic, is formed on one side of the plastic film. CONSTITUTION: Coating composition, which is prepared by melting polysilazane in solvent, is applied by gravure coating method or the like on at least one side of plastic film and, after that, is subjected to heating treatment under the temperature, which does not mar the plastic film. In the heat treatment under the above-mentioned temperature, since the conversion to ceramic is imperfect in the film, through the heat treatment in water vapor atmosphere or the immersion in catalyzer-containing distilled water or both the heat treatment and the immersion, the formation of dense film substantially made of SiO2 becomes possible. Since the SiO2 film comes from the polysilazane, the film contains 0.05-5% of nitrogen by atomic percentage. If the nitrogen content is more than 5%, insufficient conversion of the film to ceramic results. On the other hand, the nitrogen content less than 0.05% is hard to realize.
