    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine which can be recovered from a dead end shield tunnel, and to provide a shield tunnel constructing method which can recover the shield machine from the dead end shield tunnel. SOLUTION: There is provided a shield machine having a rectangular cross section, which is divided by two surfaces in parallel with an advancing direction and with each other, and therefore constituted of four divided bodies each including a corner portion. There is also provided a shield tunnel constructing method by using the shield machine. According to the method, the shield machine with the four divided bodies being assembled, is advanced, and segments are framed in a space bored by the machine, to construct a shield tunnel. Thereafter, the shield machine is frontward extruded from the shield tunnel, and the divided bodies at opposite locations are housed inside the shield machine, whereby the shield machine with a reduced outside shape is constituted of the remaining divided bodies. Then, the reduced shield machine is removed through the interior of the shield tunnel, and a filler is filled in a bottom of a space after the removal of the shield machine, followed by framing the segments to construct the end of the tunnel.
