    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mounted type optical isolator capable of being downsized in responce to recent demand, easily automating its assembly and reducing its assembling cost.
      SOLUTION: The surface mounted type optical isolator is composed of: an optical isolator element, in which a polarizer, a Faraday rotator and a polarizer are arranged in this order from an incident side, parallelepiped permanent magnets, which are arranged at both sides of the Faraday rotator and have sufficient magnetic force to make the rotator to be magnetically saturated; and a holder which holds them. In the optical isolator, the shape of the holder is either one of a recessed character type, a U-shaped type or a W-shaped type, and it is preferable that the height of the upper end part of the magnet when the permanent magnet is joined into the holder is made lower than that of the upper end part of walls of the holder.

SOLUTION: A lead frame is provided by press-working which comprises a plurality of inner leads so radially extending as to enclose a semiconductor chip mounting part and an outer lead extending through a dam-bar. Here, at least an inner lead root part and the vicinity of dam-bar are punched with a smaller punch so that the punching position in the inner lead direction is inside a mold line, then the inner lead, the dam-bar, and the outer lead are punched.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional light emission and reception module with a low manufacturing cost.
      SOLUTION: A bidirectional light emission and reception module has a light-emitting device 1 for emitting transmitting signal light, an optical fiber 8 on which the transmitting signal light is made to be incident, a light-receiving device 9 on which reception signal light emitted from the optical fiber is made to be incident, and a wavelength selection filter 4, wherein the transmitting signal light emitted from the light-emitting device is sent through the optical fiber, and the receiving signal light having a wavelength different from that of the transmitting signal light is received through the optical fiber. The bidirectional light emission and reception module has an optical device (optical isolator) constituted essentially of a reflection type polarizer 6 bonded to the end face of the optical fiber, a Faraday rotator 5 disposed integrally on the reflection type polarizer and an absorption type polarizer 3 disposed on an optical path extending between the light-emitting device and the wavelength selection filter. The reflection type polarizer has a wavelength dependency such that it functions as a polarizer for the transmitting signal light but does not function as a polarizer for the receiving signal light.
