    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable dispersion compensator which is excellent in precision and controllability of dispersion compensation and further an optical circuit of which is miniaturized and to provide a light transmission system provided therewith. SOLUTION: Signal light to be dispersion-compensated is demultiplexed by an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 2, each frequency component of demultiplexed signal light is reflected by a corresponding reflecting mirror 30 contained in a reflecting mirror group 3 being a reflecting means and prescribed phase shift is given to each frequency component. Then each reflected frequency component is multiplexed to the dispersion-compensated signal light by the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 2. Thereby dispersion occurred in the signal light can be compensated with high precision and excellent controllability. As the reflecting means, single reflecting mirror which can deform whole reflecting surface by driving its prescribed part can be used.
