    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, in which the cupping being generated through the evaporation for a metal magnetic layer on a magnetic recording medium can be properly rectified by heat treatment for a supporting body even when a material having a relatively small heat-shrinkage rate is used for the material for forming the supporting body, and in which the contact state of the magnetic-recording medium with a recording/reproducing head can be improved.
      SOLUTION: It includes a magnetic layer forming step PR1 in which the magnetic layer is formed by the evaporation on the supporting body, an oxidation treatment step PR4 in which the supporting body having the magnetic layer being formed thereon is stored in an atmosphere at a prescribed pressure containing a prescribed concentration of oxygen gas for a prescribed period of time and which oxidizes the magnetic layer, and a heat treatment step PR5 in which the supporting body on which the magnetic layer is formed after the storage is heated to a prescribed temperature to thermally shrink the supporting body and in which the curvature of the magnetic recording medium being generated by the shrinkage of the magnetic layer at the time of evaporating the magnetic layer is rectified into a desired shape.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which is obtained by a vacuum vapor deposition process for forming a thin magnetic metallic film under introduction of oxygen and has a high recording capacity to make a high output obtainable in spite of the low noise applicable to an ALT3 format and a method for manufacturing the same.
      SOLUTION: The surface of a nonmagnetic support is provided with the thin magnetic metallic film of Co under introduction of the gaseous oxygen by applying the vacuum vapor deposition process while the nonmagnetic support is made to travel continuously at a high speed by controlling the traveling speed of the nonmagnetic support to a range of from 150 to 200 m/min, by which the coercive force Hc of the thin magnetic metallic film of Co is regulated to 100 to 115 kA/m and the squareness ratio Rs thereof to ≥0.79.
