    • PURPOSE:To eliminate scatter in damping force, by providing such an arrangement that the sizes and shapes of disc valves which are set on both end faces of a piston are made equal. CONSTITUTION:Annular recess parts 10, 11 are formed on the top and bottom faces of a piston 4, respectively, and therefore, concentrically circular outer and inner ring seats 12a, 12b, 13a, 13b are formed. A plurality of disc valves 14, 15 abut against the ring seats. The piston 4 is formed, in its barrel section, with a plurarity of axial oil passages each having its top end opened to the recess part 10 and its bottom end blocked, and a plurarity of axial oil passages 17 each having, in contrast with the passages 16, its top end blocked and its bottom end opened to the another recess part 11. Further, the piston 4 is formed, in its peripheral wall, with a pulling side oil hole 18 which is opened to an oil passage 16 that is therefore communicated with an operating chamber S2, a relatively small diameter common oil passage 19 which is also opened to the oil passage 16 for always communicating between an upper operating chamber S1 and the lower operating chamber S2, and a pushing side oil hole 20 opened to the oil passage 17 that is therefore communicated with the upper operating chamber S1.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the oil from the generating of air bubbles and obtain the stabilized damping force by a method wherein an oil pipe is provided, an opening of the oil pipe is located in an oil layer in a sub-tank in which the oil layer and a pressurized gas layer are provided. The pipe is connected to a connecting pipe being connected to a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:An oil layer 8 and a gas layer 9 being enclosed with a pressurized gas are provided in a sub-tank 1. An opening end of an oil pipe 6 is extended to the vicinity of a lower cover 3, opened in the oil layer 8, and the other end of the oil pipe connected to an oil channel 7 of a connecting part 5 of a connecting pipe. Therefore, when an oil is moved via a connecting pipe 4 which connects a cylinder having a piston to the sub-tank 1, the oil is moved through the oil pipe 6 of which opening is located in the oil, accordingly, the oil is prevented from mixing of air bubbles and stabilized damping force can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE: To make easy the adjustment of a generated damping force and to enhance the maintainability, by providing a damping force generating apparatus of a hydraulic buffer that is used as a rear cushion for bicycles or the like and in which a bottom plate of a sub-tank is provided with a valve for controlling a flow between the sub-tank and a cylinder oil chamber.
      CONSTITUTION: The bottom plate 19 of the sub-tank 15 is formed with oil passages 21, 22 for communicating a working chamber of a cylinder with an oil chamber of the sub-tank, and the damping force generating apparatus 30 is fixed between the oil passages 21, 22. Check valves 36, 38 are arranged on opposite surfaces of a valve seat 31, and the check valve 36 can be forcibly opened against a spring 47 thereby generating a damping force. The check valve 38 can be forcibly opened against a spring 40 thereby generating a damping force. By rotating an adjustment dial 42 to move a rod 41 vertically, the set length of the spring 47 can be varied to adjust the damping force.
