    • PURPOSE:To aim at a reduction in pitching at a convex-form step difference as well as to make improvements in driving comfortableness and in the stability of steerage, by increasing the damping force of a shock absorber and a spring constant in an air spring chamber with a low level detection signal of a suspension unit, while forming the suspension unit so as to be controlled into a hard state. CONSTITUTION:A low level detection sensor 17L for convex-form step difference detection use detects a low car height level, and when the detected level is inputted into a control unit 14, this control unit 14 makes a damping force selector mechanism D of a shock absorber 4 into a hard state via a solenoid driving circuit 13a and a simultaeously an air chamber spring constant selector mechanism E into a hard state as well. With this, rotation by the pitching of a car body B caused by passing a convex-form step difference is reduced, thus driving comfortableness and steering stability both can be improved.

    • PURPOSE: To make easy the adjustment of a generated damping force and to enhance the maintainability, by providing a damping force generating apparatus of a hydraulic buffer that is used as a rear cushion for bicycles or the like and in which a bottom plate of a sub-tank is provided with a valve for controlling a flow between the sub-tank and a cylinder oil chamber.
      CONSTITUTION: The bottom plate 19 of the sub-tank 15 is formed with oil passages 21, 22 for communicating a working chamber of a cylinder with an oil chamber of the sub-tank, and the damping force generating apparatus 30 is fixed between the oil passages 21, 22. Check valves 36, 38 are arranged on opposite surfaces of a valve seat 31, and the check valve 36 can be forcibly opened against a spring 47 thereby generating a damping force. The check valve 38 can be forcibly opened against a spring 40 thereby generating a damping force. By rotating an adjustment dial 42 to move a rod 41 vertically, the set length of the spring 47 can be varied to adjust the damping force.

    • PURPOSE:To improve spring characteristics with elongating length of the coil spring and enlarging the volume of air chamber by preparing sliding tube between inner and outer cylinder and forming sliding surface parallel with the coil spring. CONSTITUTION:A sliding cylinder 12 installed between inner cylinder 3 and outer cylinder 11 is prepared with sufficient space between the inner cylinder 3 to install a coil spring 10 inserted in between and the bottom end is fixed to the outer wall of the inner cylinder 3 to close the space, and the upper open end is inserted to fit in the outer cylinder 11, and the external surface is joined with outer cylinder 11 to be air tight and to slide freely. The sliding surface, the outer cylinder 11 and the spring 10 are in a parallel position and the coil spring 10 can be extended down to the lower attaching position of the sliding cylinder without being interfered by the above-described constructions.
