    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently obtaining a highly purified succinic acid from a succinic acid alkali metal salt by a simple separating and purifying method.
      SOLUTION: This method for producing the succinic acid comprises (1) a process of adding sulfuric acid to a liquid containing the alkali metal salt of succinic acid, (2) a process of precipitating and removing the crystal of an alkali metal sulfuric aid salt from the liquid, and (3) a process of precipitating for recovering the succinic acid crystal. The removal of the alkali metal sulfuric acid salt crystal in the process (2) is performed by concentrating and heating the liquid added with the sulfuric acid in the process (1) to precipitate the alkali metal sulfuric acid salt crystal and performing solid-liquid separation in a state that the succinic acid is dissolved.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing highly purified succinic acid in high efficiency by comprehensively improving the whole steps from fermentation to separation and purification in the conventional method for producing succinic acid by a microorganism. SOLUTION: This method for the production of succinic acid contains (1) a step to aerobically culture the microorganism, (2) a step to anaerobically produce a succinic acid salt, (3) a step to convert the succinic acid salt to succinic acid and (4) a step to recover succinic acid crystal and filtrate by crystallizing succinic acid and separating into solid and liquid. Preferably, the method further contains (5) a step to separate the filtrate recovered in the step (4) into two layers comprising a upper layer containing succinic acid as a main component and a lower layer containing a sugar derived from the reaction liquid and an inorganic anion as main components by adding an alcohol to the filtrate and (6) a step to separate and recover the concentrated solution of succinic acid from the alcohol by concentrating the upper layer under reduced pressure.
