    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method by which a measured value of backlash between a drive gear and an intermediate gear in the process of assembling an electric power steering device becomes identical with a measured value of backlash in their product stages.
      SOLUTION: In the method of measuring the backlash of the electric power steering device, a measurement error factor due to deflection of a pinion shaft 14 during measurement is eliminated by locking the pinion shaft with respect to a housing by using a chuck device 40 which grips a shaft end 14A of the pinion shaft 14 facing outward from an opening 20 disposed in the housing, from the circumference of the central axis of the shaft end.
