    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slow sand filtration system which can inhibit generation of surplus algae without using an oil film and a chemical, and method. SOLUTION: In the slow sand filtration system, a biofilm 12 separating pollutants in raw water 2 is formed on the surface of a filter sand layer 4, and the raw water 2 is made to pass through the filter sand layer 4 to obtain purified water. An aeration pipe 7 is installed in water of a filter basin 6 for inhibiting the generation of algae, and air bubbles 11 are discharged from holes formed in the aeration pipe 7 to perform aeration. By performing the aeration, an upward water flow is generated by buoyancy of the air bubbles 11 discharged into the water of the filter basin 6 from the aeration pipe 7 to cut the algae in the biofilm 12 on the surface of the filter sand layer 4 into pieces. The surplus algae are raised to the water surface by the upward water flow and passes through an overflow pipe 5 to be discharged by overflow. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
