    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for crushing a plate-shaped body efficiently by making good use of the pressure wave generated by discharging electricity on the surface of an electrode.
      SOLUTION: This method for crushing the plate-shaped body comprises a step (S10) to prepare the plate-shaped body, a step (S20) to arrange the electrode and a discharging/crushing step (S40) including a discharge step and a pressure wave propagating step. The plate-shaped body has a front surface and a rear surface positioned on the side opposite to the front surface. At the step (S20), the electrode is arranged to be opposed to the front surface of the plate-shaped body. At the discharge step, electricity is discharged by energizing the electrode. At the pressure wave propagating step, the pressure wave generated by discharging electricity on the surface of the electrode is made incident on the surface of the plate-shaped body and propagated from the front surface side of the plate-shaped body to the rear surface side. At the discharge step the position of the electrode with respect to the front surface of the plate-shaped body and the value of the energy to be supplied to the electrode for discharging electricity are decided so that breakages are caused mainly in the vicinity of the rear surface of the plate-shaped body by the Hopkinson effect.
