Then, the driving circuit 15b on the scanning side which made to correspond to the electrode Y on the odd numberth scanning side is substituted by inverting the top and bottom arrangement of the wiring substrate 16 of the driving circuit 15a on the scanning side. Thus, the driving circuit is used in common and the cost of the device is reduced.

The separation of the mask 31 from the upper part insulating layer 5, after completely removing the unwanted parts in the peripheral region , causes the end part 2a of a transferent electrode 2 to be exposed from the three-layer films 3-5. Then a metal film such as Al and Ni is formed on the upper part insulating layer 5 to be made photo-etching for forming a belt-like back plate 6 and a terminal electrode 7. This can improve display quality, to obtain excellent gradation display quality even in an EL panel with a gradation display function.

Consequently, a common gradational display is made in the N driving and P driving with one binary code signal.
