    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for orienting/piling wood strands, in which wood strands different in thickness, width and length can be oriented at a low cost.SOLUTION: The apparatus for orienting/piling wood strands comprises: an orientation part for dropping wood strands between adjacently rotated disks to align the dropped wood strands almost in parallel; a supply part for supplying the wood strands to the orientation part; and a conveyance part for conveying the wood strands dropped/piled from the orientation part. The orientation part has a plurality of parallel rotary shafts and a plurality of disks disposed to the shaft direction of each of the parallel rotary shafts. An interval of the adjacent disks is 10-60 mm. In the supply part, the wood strands are scattered to supply the wood strands to the whole area of the orientation part.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermoplastic foamed article contrived to improve the compression strength and thermal dimensional stability, by arranging under a certain condition an organic fibrous material with a specific aspect ratio in the periphery of foamed cells in the foamed article using a thermoplastic resin. SOLUTION: On the periphery of foamed cells of the foamed article using a thermoplastic resin (e.g. a PP), an organic fibrous material which comprises pref. a liquid crystal polymer (e.g. a whole aromatic polyester) with an aspect ratio of 30-5,000 is arranged three-dimensionally and randomly. The organic fibrous material has a ratio of the diameter to the thickness of a cell wall, of pref. 0.5 or below and it has also a ratio of the fiber length to an average circumferential length of a foamed cell, of pref. 0.1-5. This foamed article can be prepared by blending a thermoplastic resin, an organic fibrous material, and a heat-decomposition type foaming agent, melt kneading to give a foamable compsn., then heating it up to the decomposition temp. or above of the heat- decomposition type foaming agent, thus foaming.
