    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having high capacity and an excellent charge-discharge characteristic by improving a positive electrode, in a lithium secondary battery using a material containing silicon as a negative electrode active material. SOLUTION: This lithium secondary battery includes: a negative electrode 2 containing silicon as the negative electrode active material; the positive electrode 1 containing a lithium transition metal composite oxide as a positive electrode active material; and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The lithium secondary battery is characterized by that electrolyte-retaining powder for retaining the nonaqueous electrolyte is added in the positive electrode 1; the average particle diameter of the electrolyte-retaining powder is 10 nm to 1 μm; and the BET specific surface area thereof is restricted to not less than 5 m 2 /g.
