    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact cooling device using a refrigeration cycle, and a laptop computer. SOLUTION: An electronic apparatus 10 has a housing portion 30 in which a functional element 36 operating while generating heat is stored. The housing portion 30 houses the cooling device comprising: a compressing means 41 of compressing a refrigerant; a condensing means 42 of liquefying the refrigerant by emitting heat from the refrigerant compressed by the compressing means 41 to the outside of the housing portion 30; an expanding means 43 of expanding the refrigerant liquefied by the condensing means 42; an evaporating means 44 of evaporating the refrigerant expanded by the expanding means 43 by receiving the heat from the functional element 36; and a blowing means 45. Length directions of the condensing means 42 and compressing means 41 are substantially parallel with a side face of the housing portion 30. Consequently, the condensing means 42 and compressing means 41 which are relatively large-sized components can be stored compactly, so the space that the cooling device occupies in the housing is reducible.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact cooling device which uses refrigeration cycles, and to provide a notebook computer.
      SOLUTION: The cooling device 40 for electronic apparatus includes: a compressor 41 which compresses a refrigerant; a condenser 42 which liquefies the refrigerant by dissipating heat from the refrigerant compressed by the compressor 41 to the outside; a capillary tube 43 in which the refrigerant liquefied by the condenser 42 is expanded; and an evaporator 44 which receives heat from a semiconductor element to evaporate the refrigerant expanded in the capillary tube 43, wherein at least part of piping connected to the evaporator 44 is positioned above the evaporator 44. Consequently, a liquid refrigerant is retained in the evaporator 44 to advantageously cool a CPU 36 with the retained liquid refrigerant (refrigerant in a liquid state).
