    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound enhancement apparatus that produces a low cross modulation distortion component even over a broadband signal and performs psychoacoustic base enhancement (BSE) techniques natural in hearing; and to provide a sound enhancement method. SOLUTION: The sound enhancement apparatus includes a processor, a BSE signal generator and a gain controller. The processor divides a source signal into a high-frequency signal and a low-frequency signal and analyzes the low-frequency signal to obtain prediction information about a degree of distortion that is generated by the low-frequency signal. The psychoacoustic BSE signal generator generates a higher harmonic signal for the low-frequency signal as a BSE signal to be substituted for the low-frequency signal, wherein the order of the higher harmonic signal is adjusted based on the prediction information about the degree of distortion. The gain controller adjusts the synthesis ratio of the low-frequency signal and the BSE signal adaptively depending on the prediction information about the degree of distortion.       SOLUTION: A directional sound producing device which outputs concentrically sound only to a specified area and a directional speaker array having the device are disclosed. The directional sound producing device is configured so as to include a sound transducer which outputs a sound wave of a reverse phase forward and backward and a reflection board which is positioned at the rear of the sound transducer and includes a block board which separates the front portion from the back portion of the sound transducer and increases an interference distance between a front emission sound and a back emission sound from the sound transducer. Thereby, a uniform sound pressure level is obtained in a whole frequency area, and moreover the directionality of sound can be improved.
