    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight assembly capable of enhancing productivity and reducing power consumption, and to provide a display device having the same.
      SOLUTION: The backlight assembly includes at least one U-shaped lamp that generates light in response to first and second driving voltages and an inverter that outputs the first and second driving voltages. The at least one U-shaped lamp is formed so as to surround a U-shaped lamp tube and the outer circumferential surface of first and second end parts of the U-shaped lamp tube and contains first and second external electrodes to which the first and second driving voltages are inputted respectively. The inverter provides the first and second driving voltages to the first and second external electrodes respectively in response to an external power source supplied from the outside. As the result, the productivity of the backlight assembly and the display device having the backlight assembly is enhanced and the power consumption may be reduced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with a backlight assembly having an improved structure.
      SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel displaying an image, the backlight assembly providing light to the liquid crystal panel, and a top frame combined with the backlight assembly. The backlight assembly includes a light source, an optical member regulating the direction of the light emitted from the light source, and a bottom frame housing the light source. The bottom frame includes a light source housing part as a bottom surface, a side part as a side surface rising from an edge of the bottom surface, and an optical member supporting part as an upper surface which extends toward the light source from the side surface, and supporting the optical member. Since the optical member supporting part of the bottom frame extends toward the light source from the side part, the size and weight of the liquid crystal display device can be reduced as a whole.
