    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method for a steel where a molten steel in a mold is subjected to electromagnetic stirring, so as to prevent the bubble defect of the surface layer in the slab, and further, the entanglement of mold flux is prevented.
      SOLUTION: Upon continuous casting for a steel, when a molten steel in a mold is subjected to electromagnetic stirring in such a manner that a rotating flow in the horizontal direction is formed, mold flux in which viscosity at 1,300°C is ≤3 poise and bulk density at ordinary temperature is ≥0.7 g/cm
      3 is added to the surface of the molten steel. Desirably, the basicity (T.CaO/SiO
      2 ) of the mold flux is controlled to ≥1.0. In such a state that the molten steel is subjected to electromagnetic stirring, the melting speed of the mold flux is held to a proper state, and the operation of the casting can be stabilized, and further, an extralow carbon steel slab having satisfactory surface cleanliness can be obtained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize the optimum dimensions of an iron core in an electromagnetic coil usable for both an electromagnetic stirring and an electromagnetic brake.
      SOLUTION: Disclosed is an electromagnetic coil device for continuous casting to steel where direct current or alternating current having three or more phases is made to flow through an electromagnetic coil arranged at the outer circumference of the long side 3b in a mold, and an electromagnetic brake or an electromagnetic stirring is selectively acted on molten steel 2. In the electromagnetic coil, two teeth parts 21a are projectingly provided from a yoke part 21b. Outside windings 23 are applied to the further outsides of the two teeth parts 21a with inside windings 22 applied thereto. The length L of each teeth part 21a is controlled to ≥2 times the width W of the teeth part 21a, or/and the thickness Y of the yoke part 21b is controlled to ≥2 times the width W of the teeth part 21a. The electromagnetic coils are arranged by n pieces (n is a natural number of ≥2) per long side 3b, and magnetic core parts 21 are arranged in the range of the vertical direction including the discharge hole 1a of an immersion nozzle 1 from a meniscus position. Sufficient stirring capacity and brake capacity can be secured while attaining power-saving and lightening.
