    • PURPOSE: To reduce the charging time of a metallic material and to lessen the manpower for operation by heating and melting base metals in a cylindrical melting chamber, melting the same together with the remaining metallic materials into a molten metal in a main melting furnace and casting the molten metal to an ingot by a continuous casting device.
      CONSTITUTION: Bundles 28 consisting of the base metals 24 preheated in a preheating flue 8 are charged into the cylindrical melting chamber 4 and are heated and melted continuously by a combustion heater such as burner provided in the lower part of the chamber. The molten metal 42 formed therein is stored in a holding chamber 6. A prescribed amt. of the molten metal 42 is then fed through a feed spout 12 into a main melting furnace 10 and is made into the molten metal together with the remaining metallic materials 26. The molten metal is introduced through a feed spout 14 into the holding furnace 16 where the molten metal is subjected to treatments such as degassing and slag removal. The molten metal is then supplied vai a casting spout 18 into the continuous casting device 20, by which the ingot 22 is continuously formed. The material charging time and melting time are reduced by the above-mentioned operation and the oxidation loss is effectively suppressed.
