摘要： PURPOSE: To make an envelope gripping unit usable for various kinds of cables with different outer diameters by employing a rotabably mounted clamp to grip the envelope of the communication cable. CONSTITUTION: A screw 92 attached to a clamp 9 is screwed into a threaded hole 71 in a gripper 7 so as to mount the clamp 9 the to gripper 7. The gripper 7, which has a structure separated into an upper and a lower portions and to which the clamp 9 is mounted, is allowed to cover a cable 11 and is fastened by a bolt 8. The screw 92 of the clamp 9 is fastened with a driver at a specified torque, and a metal plate in the shape of a circular arc having protrusions 91 is embedded into the cable envelope thus fixing the envelope. Since the clamp 9 acts as the same role as a conventional inner gripper and a gripper spacer, the gripper spacer and the inner gripper needing numerous kinds of parts become unnecessary, thus reducing the cost. Further, the operation of forming the gripping unit becomes easier due to the simplification of the structure.

An end face board 40 is split into two board chips 44, 44 and fitted to the cables 10, 11, then they are jointed through a fastening bolt 45. A cable seal member 47 previously wound around the outer circumferential faces of the cables 10, 11 seals the gap formed between a cable through-hole and the cables 10, 11.

Because of the end surface composition of a cage unit for cable connecting sections in this manner, even if the rubber end surface plates 10 are forced to be expanded with the internal pressure of inert gas, the expansion is suppressed by the reinforcement plates 11 on the external surface. Accordingly, the end surface plates 10 excellent in air-tight function are improved, and the reliability of keeping the air-tightness for a long time can be improved.
