摘要： PURPOSE:To largely modulate a current between a source and a drain by a voltage applied to a gate by composing a semiconductor layer of a pi-conjugate polymer soluble in solvent, and bringing at least one of source and drain electrodes in nonohmic contact with the layer. CONSTITUTION:The width of a depleted layer formed at the side of a soluble pi-conjugate polymer film 4 in a boundary between the film 4 and an insulating film 3 is controlled by a voltage applied between a gate electrode 2 and a source electrode 5, and channel sectional area of an effective carrier is varied. Accordingly, a current flowing between the electrode 5 and a drain electrode 6 is varied. A hetero junction is formed of the electrodes 5, 6 and a semiconductor layer, and when they are brought into nonohmic contact with each other due to its potential barrier, a current between the source and the drain when a voltage is not applied to the electrode 5 is reduced according to the size of the barrier.

Namely, the pi-conjugation high- polymer precursor film is produced from the pi-conjugation high-polymer precursor soluble in the solvent and thereafter, this high-polymer precursor film is changed to the pi-conjugation high-polymer film and, therefore, the process for producing the element is extremely simplified. The pi-conjugation high polymer to be used is obtd. from the precursor of the pi-conjugation high polymer soluble in the solvent and is expressed by the formula. Such pi-conjugation high polymer has excellent characteristics, such as high nonlinear optical constant and high SHG activity.
