CONSTITUTION:A powder is obtained in the following manner: needle ferric hydroxide particles or needle hematite particles obtained by heating and baking them are heated and reduced in a reducing gas; needle metal magnetic fine particles composed mainly of iron are formed; after that, they are brought, in a vapor phase, into contact with at least one kind out of silicone compound monomers expressed by the formula; the particles of the needle crystal metal magnetic fine particles composed mainly of iron is covered with a polymer formed of the silicone compound monomer; the particles are heated; the polymer on the particle surface is made dense; after that, the particles are oxidized. The powder is composed mainly of iron whose coercive force is 1500Oe or higher, whose saturation magnetization is 150emu/g or lower, whose S. F. D is 0.35 or less, whose resin adsorption amount is 4.0wt.% or larger and whose long axis is 0.2mum or less.

Then the starting material particles are heat-treated within a temperature range of 700-900 deg.C. Therefore, the fine powder of the platy composite ferrite which has a large magnetization value and appropriate coercive force, is excellent in dispersibility, and contains Ba can be obtained.

Thereby needle crystal iron alloy magnetic grain powder, which has high coercive force and large saturation magnetization and is excellent in dispersion property and oxidation stability, can be obtained.

In the formula, R , R , R , R , R or R is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having the number of carbon atoms of 1-10 which can be substituted with at least one halogen atom. The character (a) or (b) is an integer of 0, 1 or more, respectively. The character (c) is 0 or 2. When (c) is 0, the sum of (a) and (b) is the integer of 3 or more.
