SOLUTION: An electrophotographic image forming apparatus is equipped with a columnar photosensitive member 107 of which the surface is uniformly charged, a laser beam emitting part 11 for emitting laser beam in one direction, a polygon mirror 12 reflecting laser beam from its polygonal peripheral surface and a BD sensor 14 for successively receiving lights from the respective planes constituting the peripheral surface of the polygon mirror 12. The polygon mirror 12 and the photosensitive member 107 are rotated around the axes thereof to scan laser beam in the main scanning direction along the axial direction of the photosensitive member 107 and the sub-scanning direction along the peripheral direction thereof and an electrostatic latent image corresponding to image data is formed on the surface of the photosensitive member 107. The timing in the main scanning direction of laser beam generated by the rotation of the polygon mirror 12 can be accurately grasped and the local concn. of laser beam to the photosensitive member can be prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably control toner by eliminating the adherence of the toner to a control electrode by providing an image forming control electrode provided at the developer carrier side as a developer control electrode and a developer adherence preventive electrode to be applied with the voltage of the same potential as that of the carrier. SOLUTION: When a conductive layer 14c is so formed as to cover an area larger than a conductive layer 14b and a negative voltage such as for example, the voltage of the same potential as that of a toner carrier roller 12 is applied to the roller 12, the negative voltage of the same potential as that of the layer 14c is applied, and hence an electric field of toner flying direction is not formed on the area formed only with the layer 14c. Accordingly, the toner flying except an opening 14d is prevented. When toner fly preventive voltage is applied to the layer 14b while a transfer sheet 17 is discharged from an image forming unit immediately after printing, unnecessary toner is not adhered from the roller 12 to the sheet 17, and further the contamination of toner control electrode 14 is prevented.
