摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator for an ink jet printer capable of trimming only a part where a piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer covers a diaphragm and capable of trimming by a laser without damaging the diaphragm by controlling the laser precisely. SOLUTION: There is provided the actuator for the ink jet printer which has an ink tank 28 constituted by integrally forming a thick substrate 21 having a cavity structure and the diaphragm 22 for capping a cavity 20; and a piezoelectric/electrostrictive action part 26 having the piezoelectric/ electrostrictive layer 24 arranged between an upper electrode layer 25 and a lower electrode layer 23, and in which the piezoelectric/electrostrictive action part 26 is arranged on the ink tank 28 in a state in which the lower electrode layer 23 and the diaphragm 22 contact each other. An effective electrode area is controlled by trimming the upper electrode layer 25 of only a part where the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 24 covers the diaphragm 22, so that an ink jet amount is adjusted to an appropriate value.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a crack not exposed to a surface by setting one of conductors arranged on both faces of the substrate to a conductive liquid and the other to a plane conductive part and measuring an insulating resistance value, using the other conductor conducted thereto as an electrode. SOLUTION: A ceramic substrate 3 is mounted on a container 2, which is composed of a conductive metal filled with liquid 1 having conductivity, in such a state that the surface of the plane subtitle 3 without having a conductive film 4 is brought in contact with the liquid. The conductive film 4 and the container 2 are connected to an LCR measuring device via a lead. When a crack is present, the liquid 1 rises in the crack by capillarity and is contacted with the conductive film 4. The conductive film 4 and the liquid 1 are thus electrically conducted, so that the insulating resistance value is decreased with increase in dielectric loss factor. Measurement of this dielectric loss allows to detect a crack which is covered with the conductive film 4, so as not to be exposed to the surface. This constitution can eliminate any crack from being overlooked, and conversion of the test results into numerical values permits an objective judgment.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform trimming by use of a laser beam by controlling the laser beam precisely so as to trim the portion at which a piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer covers a vibration plate without causing damage in the vibration plate.
SOLUTION: An actuator has an ink tank formed by integrally forming a thick-walled substrate 21 having a cavity structure, and a vibration plate 22 covering a cavity 20; and a piezoelectric/electrostrictive actuating unit 26 formed by disposing a piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 24 between an upper electrode layer 25 and a lower electrode layer 23. The piezoelectric/electrostrictive actuating unit 26 is disposed on the ink tank so that the lower electrode layer 23 and the vibration plate 22 come in contact with each otehr. In the actuator, only a portion of the upper electrode layer 25 at a position where the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 24 covers the vibration plate 22 is subjected to trimming. The upper electrode layer 25 is subjected to trimming while the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 24 covers the vibration plate 22 at least in the vicinity of the portion of the upper electrode layer 25 to which trimming is performed. As a result, effective electrode area is controlled so as to adjust the ink ejection amount to an appropriate value.

The piezoelectric/electrostrictive actuation part 26 is arranged on the ink tank in such a state that the diaphragm 22 is brought into contact with the lower electrode layer 23. Effective electrode area is controlled by trimming the upper electrode layer 25 only in the part in which the diaphragm 22 is covered with the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 24. The diaphragm 22 is covered with the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 26 in the vicinity of at least the part applying trimming in the upper electrode part 25 and the upper electrode layer 25 is trimmed.
