摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain an aqueous dispersion of a color developer having high concentration and excellent handleability and shelf stability and capable of improving color developing property, printability and light resistance of a color developing sheet, by emulsifying or dispersing a color developer comprising a specified substituted salicylic acid salt as a main constituent in an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol at a temperature higher than the softening point of the color developer, followed by cooling. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous dispersion of a color developer is prepared by a method wherein a color developer comprising a substituted salicylic acid salt of general formula I as a main constituent and having a softening point of at least 30 deg.C is emulsified or dispersed in an aqueous solution of a polyvinyl alcohol having a polymerization degree of at least 500 and a saponification degree of at least 70% at a temperature higher than the softening point of the color developer by at least 30 deg.C, followed by cooling. If the polymerization degree of the polyvinyl alcohol is less than 500, a capability of emulsifying the color developer is unsatisfactory, and it is impossible to obtain an aqueous dispersion of the color developer improved in shelf stability. If the saponification degree of the polyvinyl alcohol is less than 70%, the emulsifying capability is again made unsatisfactory. The polyvinyl alcohol is used preferably in an amount of about 1-30pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the color developer.

A preferable nuclear- substd. salicylic acid is 3-methyl-5-isononylsalicylic acid or the like. A preferable multivalent metal for forming the multivalent metal salt of the nuclear-substd. salicylic acid is magnesium, aluminum or the like, in which zinc is most preferable.

Agitators 6 of a propeller type, turbine type, etc., or homogeneizers, line mixers, line homomixers, etc., are used as this crusher. The color developers are then cooled to =30 deg.C at the time of the crushing, but an extreme thickening phenomenon arises if the temp. exceeds 30 deg.C at the time of the pulverizing.
