SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a detection means for detecting the deviation amount or deviation force of an endless belt in a side edge direction; an informing means for informing of abnormality information on the fixing means, on the basis of a result of detection by the detection means; and a measuring and recording means for measuring the operation distance of the endless belt and also recording the result of measurement. When the deviation amount or the deviation force detected by the detection means is equal to or larger than a prescribed value, the informing means refers to the operation distance at present recorded by the measuring and recording means. When it is decided that the referred operation distance is equal to or larger than the prescribed distance value, the informing means informs that the "service life of the fixing means nearly at an end"; and when it is decided that the operation distance is smaller than the prescribed distance value, it notifies that it is the "initial fault of the fixing means".
