    • PURPOSE:To improve the back track processing efficiency by limiting the conversion candidates of a back track mode by the threshold value compared with the evaluation value. CONSTITUTION:A character string to be converted is produced for a sentence supplied from an input part 1, and the conversion candidates corresponding to the relevant reading are extracted out of the head of said character string by a dictionary retrieving part 3. The propriety is detected by a connection propriety detecting part 5 for connection of those conversion candiates with the immediately preceding conerted word. Then the connectable candidates are evaluated by an evaluation part 7, and a candidate having the highest evaluation value is defined as the result of conversion. While the candidates of lower evaluation values are stored to a conversion candidate preserving buffer 10. A back track control part 8 reads th conversion candidate having the next highest value and different continuation property out of the buffer 10. Then the evaluation value of this candidate is compared with the threshold value. When the evaluation value is higher than the threshold value, the word analusis preparatory processing is carried out to complte a back track operation. Then the normal KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion processing is reset.

The possibility of grammatically connecting a word having the notation outputted from the retrieving section 4 is judged at a connection judging section 5 and a word confirmed by the judging section 5 is evaluated at an evaluating section 7 in accordance with a predetermined evaluating criterion. A reading temporary memory 5 checks whether or not a part coincident with the reading of words already analyzed is included to the character strings to be analyzed. When said reading is not included to the memory 5, a word dictionary 4 is retrieved at and after the head of a character string to be converted under the control of the part 6. The result of this retrieval is evaluated by an evaluating part 7 and outputted to an output processing part 8 and also stored to the memory 5 when necessary. Then the past retrieval of dictionary and analyses of words are utilized to the subsequent analyses of words, and the part of retrieval of dictionary is omitted.

Further, as "kanji" parts and kana parts are inputted separately, "kana-kanji" conversion becomes easy, time for processing is shortened and processing speed can be increased.
