SOLUTION: Image data 31 are divided into a plurality of bands Band 1-n and, on the occasion when bit map data 34-1-n of the individual bands are coded respectively by a plurality of coders 20-1-n, a plurality of reference candidate pixels are set for every line in the main scanning direction. A function of incrementing a value of a counter corresponding to the reference candidate pixel conforming to a noted pixel, a function of comparing values of individual counters with one another, a function of switching the reference candidate pixel to which the counter showing the largest value corresponds over to the reference candidate pixel in the subsequent processing for one line in the main scanning direction, every time when the processing of the bit map data for one line in the main scanning direction is finished, and a function of avoiding reference to the reference candidate pixels to which the counters showing small values, in the subsequent processing for one line in the main scanning direction, are provided. Besides, a function of not incrementing the counters corresponding to the reference candidate pixels to which the counters showing the small values correspond, in the subsequent processing for one line in the main scanning direction, is also provided.

SOLUTION: When an encoder encodes bit map data in band unit, a plurality of reference candidate pixel counters 520 -5211 respectively compare an attended pixel 31 with corresponding reference candidate pixels 510 -5111 on the same time as a main scanning direction so as to increment a count value by +1 when both the pixels coincide with each other so as to compare the count values of the respective reference candidate pixel counters 520 -5211 at every finish of the processing of the bit map data by one main scanning or one band in order to select the reference candidate pixel counter, the count value of which is maximum, with a selector (SEL Reg) 55 and select the reference candidate pixel corresponding to the selected reference candidate pixel counter with a selector(SEL) 53 as the data processing reference pixel for the next line or band.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the memory capacity of a frame memory. SOLUTION: Document data to be printed are rasterized by 1st resolution (600DPI) used usually by a PS interpreter 21, a compression section 22 applies variable length reversible compression processing to the data, and the resulting compression code is stored in a compression memory (frame memory) 23. In this case, when the compression code exceeds a prescribed size, the PS interpreter 21 is used to release a compression memory and rastilizes again the data with 2nd resolution (300DPI) smaller than the 1st resolution, the compression section 22 applies variable length reversible compression processing to the data and the resulting compression code is stored in the compression memory. Then the compression code stored in the compression memory is expanded with the 1st resolution by an expansion section 25 and a binary multi-value conversion processing section 26 and the result is fed to a printer engine 208 with the 1st resolution.

The horizontal and vertical positional counters count respectively image clock and line signals. When they conform to the counted values inputted from the CPU 1, a printing start signal is outputted, and printing is started.

Thereafter, only the minimum RAM area required for communication of a resident RAM 103 is subjected to the RAM test. When the preparation for communication is completed at this time, the communication to a host device 107 is set to the ready state, and the self-diagnostic test of the RAM area including an option RAM 105 which is not tested yet is performed. Another area for a bit map or the like is reserved in the RAM area after the end of all of the RAM test, and thereafter, the reception data from the host device 107 is analyzed and the normal printing processing like expansion to the bit map is performed.

    • PURPOSE:To save time in cutting off a feeding hole part and facilitate arranging or filing recorded papers, by providing a cutting mechanism for cutting off a feeding hole part of a recorded paper, at a tractor part. CONSTITUTION:A tractor support means 12 located on the inside of a paper 13 when the paper is set onto a main body of the tractor is provided with a groove 19 at a downstream end part in the paper-discharging direction, and a cutting means 20 is contained in the groove 19. When the paper 13 is pressed by a tractor cover 14, a projected part 23 of the cutting means 20 is pushed by the tractor cover 14, a cutter blade 22 is protruded to the exterior of the support means 12, and is moved into a groove 27 by breaking through a perforation 17 of the paper 13. Then, printing is started, and when the paper 13 is fed in the paper-discharging direction, the perforation part of the paper 13 is cut by the blade 22. Accordingly, the feeding hole part of the paper 13 recorded by a printer is automatically cut off.
