    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for imaging by devising illumination conditions and processing one color image, eliminate the need for previously registering images of normal parts, detect defects in the surfaces of parts, more specifically, objects, and determine defects in parts without being affected by marks of the parts.
      SOLUTION: The method for inspecting defects in the surfaces of objects uses a color camera as a camera and determines regions of only defective parts, on the basis of a two-dimensional distribution of grayscale values of part marks, regions except the marks, and the regions of defective parts, on the basis of color images of an object illuminated by difference illumination means. It is thereby possible to determine the defective parts without being affected by variations of the characteristic styles of the part marks.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of operations and detect an object at high speed even when the object of detection rotates or inclines in a scene, by improving a conventional object detection method by pattern matching using camera images.
      SOLUTION: In this object detection method, respective configuration data of the object and the scene are acquired by measuring them with a distance sensor, deviations in position between points constituting them are found, and from the frequency of its emergence a movement amount and a rotation amount of the object are found. In this object detection method, the amount of data to be dealt with is small as compared with the conventional pattern matching, and only addition and subtraction are required for the operations. Accordingly, the object in the scene can be detected at high speed. Moreover, the method prevents the detection from being affected by apparent shapes by using the actual configuration data, and can also cope with the rotation and inclination of the object.
