When a switching control section performs switching control from the MPEG2 decoder to an H264 decoder, the H264 decoder decodes access units in order from the latest IDR access unit stored in the information storage processing means and when a PTS judgment section judges a case where a presentation time indicated by the PTS comes later in the future rather than a decoding completion time, the H264 decoder completes synchronization processing and shifts to ordinary decoding processing. Thus, a synchronization processing completion processing time of the H264 decoder is remarkably shortened.
