摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orthodontic bracket and a method of debonding the orthodontic bracket from a tooth surface, without the weakness and drawbacks of the brackets and the method of the prior art. SOLUTION: An orthodontic bracket (30) comprises a bracket body, a base (36) on the bracket body, and mechanical bonding structure (37) on the base (36). An adhesive (34) is applied to and mechanically bonded with the mechanical bonding structure (37) to secure the bracket body and the base (36) to a tooth (32). A portion of the base (36) has a bond strength with the adhesive (34) which is reduced relative to the bond strength between the remainder of the base (36) and the adhesive (34). A debonding method includes applying a debonding force to the bracket (30) at a first area (43) of reduced adhesion between the bracket (30) and the tooth (32), and removing the bracket (30) from the tooth (32). The orthodontic bracket 10 is characterized by having unexpectedly high torque strength. The ceramic injection molded (CIM) bracket body 12 may comprise a polycrystalline ceramic having a grain size distribution characterized by an average grain size in the range of larger than 3.4 μm to about 6 μm such that the orthodontic bracket is also characterized by having unexpectedly high fracture toughness.
