    • PURPOSE:To efficiently manufacture a high-calorie gas which does not contain CO, by passing a raw material gas consisting of a non-combustible component and a combustible component through an adsorption tower packed with specified adsorbents. CONSTITUTION:A packed tower 2 is packed with a dehumidifying adsorbent X (e.g., zeolite) in the upper layer, an adsorbent Y comprising a porous carrier (e.g., silica) carrying 0.5-10mmol/g of a copper compound [e.g., copper (I) chloride], for selective separation of CO, in the middle layer, and a clinoptilolite adsorbent Z in the lower layer so that the volume ratios of X to Y to Z is 0.5:9.5-3:7 and the volume ratio of Y to Z is 1:1-9. A raw material gas (a) consisting of a no-combustible component comprising, e.g., CO2, N2, and H2O and a combustible component comprising, e.g., CO, H2, and a hydrocarbon, and a product gas (b) and/or a discharged gas (c) are brought into a pressure-raising step 1, in which the pressure is raised to 1-50kg/cm G. Then this gas mixture is introduced into an adsorption tower 2 heated to a temperature of 50-200 deg.C, where the non-combustible component and CO are removed, and the product gas (b) is thus obtained. The non-combustible component and CO are then introduced into a step 3, in which the pressure is reduced to atmospheric pressure, and the discharged gas (c) is obtained.
