    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the edge rigidity of a lathe turning tool following to a machining process. SOLUTION: Two hydraulic cylinders 7, 8 are arranged on a sideways middle stand 2 upper/lower symmetrically for the slide axis of a tool rest 1. The contact shafts 9, 10 to which the piston rods 7a, 8a of the hydraulic cylinders 7, 8 are contacted are fixed to the tool rest 1. The lower slide surface 11 is formed in an arc shape around the upper contact shaft 9. Direction selector valves 14, 15 are installed in a hydraulic circuit 12 so as to control respective hydraulic cylinders 7, 8 separately. The edge rigidity of a lathe turning tool 5 is increased by extending the hydraulic cylinders 7, 8 together and clamping the tool rest 1 to the middle stand 2 at upper/lower two places. The edge rigidity is decreased by extending the upper hydraulic cylinder 7, shrinking the lower hydraulic cylinder 8 and supporting the tool rest 1 turnably for the middle stand 2 around the upper contact shaft 9.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to impart a ball screw with proper tension at all times against the expansion of this ball screw due to a temperature difference lying between a machine body and the ball screw. SOLUTION: One end of a ball screw 5 is situated and locked in the axial center line direction through a bearing, and the other end is supported by the bearing free of movement in the axial center line direction. Then, the other end is directly connected to a piston rod 15 of a cylinder 13, and tension is imparted to the ball screw 5 by a pressure fluid to be fed to the cylinder 13. An elongation amount of the ball screw 5 is calculated from a temperature difference between a temperature measuring device 19 measuring a temperature of the machine body 1 and another temperature measuring device 20 measuring a temperature of the ball screw 5, and fluid pressure necessary for producing the elongation amount is deducted from the pressure of a fluid to be fed to the cylinder 13 in time of steadiness, setting it to the pressure of a fluid to be fed to the cylinder 13 in time of the extension of the ball screw 5.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically correct, with high accuracy at a tailstock, a relative error between a main spindle and a tailstock spindle caused by a thermal deformation of headstock. SOLUTION: An oil passage 8 and a thermal sensor 9 are provided at a front wall 6 and a rear wall 7 of a tailstock 5. By controlling an oil feeding amount by means of a flow control valve 10, a temperature difference between the front wall 6 and the rear wall 7 is given to thereby displace a tailstock spindle 4 forcibly. A first storage part 12 stores a relationship between a temperature and a displacement value of a main spindle 2. A first calculating part 13 calculates an actual displacement value of the main spindle 2 on the basis of a main spindle temperature measured by a thermal sensor 3. A second storage part 14 stores a temperature difference between the front wall 6 and the rear wall 7 and a displacement value of the tailstock spindle 4. A second calculating part 15 calculates a temperature difference so as to displace the tailstock spindle 4 with an equal displacement value to the value of the main spindle 2. A control part 16 controls the flow control valve 10 so as to be an actual temperature difference between the front wall 6 and the rear wall 7 equal to a calculated value.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a tool rest into miniature and light weight, to expand the movable range of the tool rest, to improve the action speed and follow-up property of the tool rest and saddle, etc., thereby miniaturizing an NC lathe. SOLUTION: A tool rest main body 10 is provided movably in a working and an unworking positions near to a main spindle 6 and receding from the main spindle 6 respectively. A turret 11, fitted with a tool 12, is turnably supported on the tool rest main body 10 by a rotation spindle, to provide a coupling on the input end of the rotation spindle. A motor 13, a driving source for turning the turret, is installed on a bed 2 at a position receding from the main spindle 6 to provide a coupling 14 on a motor spindle 13a. When the tool rest main body 10 is retreated to the unworking position, the coupling, on the tool rest main body 10 side, is joined to the coupling 14 on the motor 13 side, to transmit the rotation of the motor 13 to the turret 11 via the rotation spindle etc.
